I decided to take a different approach to assessment 3 compared to my previous ‘where I’m from’ projects. I decided to take a slightly more abstract approach and to make it more interesting. I got the idea of basing it on my cat’s ‘dream’ when I was looking through the all the footage I took while working on assessment one and saw videos I had taken of my cat resting on the ute bonnet. I thought it would be a good idea to add interest and even humour to the project, and to connect to the ideas of childhood and where I’m from. To get the effect of the cat dreaming I used a few edits including dim to white, black and white and inverse. I didn’t want to overdo the edits as I thought it would distract from the videos. With the audio, I still wanted to use some of the natural sounds from my previous assignment but I added sounds of children talking of laughing from old home videos and videos I had of my younger cousins, I thought this paired well with the dream idea as they could be in the background as an abstract element. I originally wanted to use some of the old video footage in my video but the file sizes were too small and wouldn’t stretch to the same size as the rest of the videos I was using so I decided to leave them out. Overall I think the audio and visual elements of my video work well together to create an abstract but simple video that to me, symbolises 'Where I'm From'. I took inspiration from my past two projects and the artists I looked at whilst researching for them, but wanted to add my own ideas to it. I decided to stick with technique of using clips from remoscopes as I like the way the movements are unexpected and therefore inspires me to change ideas and improve on my final product.
